While scouting locations for the film Neo-Mania, Joe Holler took me on a tour of a deserted insane asylum near Boone, NC. It was apparently a summer camp during the 1800s for unstable children with severe emotional problems. The main building housed a dormitory and kitchen, and another windowless building was used for 'therapy.'
We also explored an old abandoned Victorian house. It looked like someone had been living in the house until the mid-1960's, and then just walked out one day and left everything behind. There were still sheets on the beds and the kitchen was fully stocked with canned goods.
